White’s has packed a number of features into this little device, from an easy-read depth ID to an eight-segment target ID complete with variable discrimination and custom notching. Three-tone audio and adjustable sensitivity round out its rather impressive selection. It doesn’t have adjustable ground balance, but its sensitivity settings should give you enough control to weed out ghost noise from highly mineralized soil.
The Coinmaster Pro’s biggest failing – and the reason it doesn’t rank higher on our list of the best general-purpose metal detectors – is its slow recovery time. After the Coinmaster has passed over and spotted a piece of junk metal, it takes a second or two to reset before it can spot anything else. If you’re detecting in a field where objects are far apart, recovery time isn’t much of an issue. However, in areas with a lot of trash, a detector with a low recovery time can mean you’re likely valuable finds. You can mitigate the problem by sweeping a little more slowly and doing several passes over an area, but in trashy areas this quickly gets tedious.
